Make Challenges Visible
Use clear stories and community education to show where seniors face isolation, instability, or barriers to support.

Focus area · Help Portland see the full picture
We make senior challenges, contributions, and possibilities more visible through stories, public education, creative events, and community-wide invitations to act.
The original website imagines a media campaign built from senior interviews and a citywide celebration called Turn the Lights Back On. Together, storytelling, music, art, and public conversation can replace stereotypes with respect and invite Portland into unity, healing, and purposeful action.
How this work takes shape
Use clear stories and community education to show where seniors face isolation, instability, or barriers to support.
Lift up resilience, creativity, service, leadership, and the knowledge older adults contribute every day.
Create media, events, and campaigns that give neighbors and institutions a meaningful way to participate.
Partnerships & special events
A citywide celebration of unity, respect, and healing: music, art, storytelling, and collective healing guided by the wisdom and blessings of Portland’s elders from all cultures.
This gathering is inspired by a collective vision of renewal—a partnership between community, city, and private leaders that opens pathways for healing, harmony, and new beginnings. Together, we embody the spirit: ‘We Are All in This Together.’
Stories create understanding
Interviews and personal stories help Portland see both the challenges seniors face and the wisdom, resilience, creativity, and leadership older adults contribute.
By sharing these experiences through media, gatherings, music, art, and public conversation, we can educate, inspire, replace stereotypes with respect, and spark collective action.
